Six students represented Walled Lake Consolidated Schools at the Michigan Music Conference
Six Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ band and orchestra students proved to be the best young musicians in the state of Michigan as they were selected for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) All-State program.
Sarah G. Banks’ Sonakshi Verma was the lone middle school student selected and performed as part of the All-State Middle School Band. Walled Lake Central piccolo player Natasha Roth and Walled Lake Northern bassoonist Ione Inchaustegui represented the district in the High School All-State Band. Walled Lake Western’s Carter Tucker-Gough also played the trumpet in the All-State High Jazz Ensemble.
Two orchestra students were selected as part of the All-State Full Orchestra; Walled Lake Northern’s Hannah Hulliberger and Walled Lake Western’s Jorge Palacios-Rodriguez.
These six performing arts students were chosen among over 2,800 band and orchestra students across the state who auditioned for the All-State program. For the audition, students performed an extremely challenging etude, performed a list of memorized scales, and sight read a piece of music they had never seen before.
Once selected, the students rehearsed with esteemed conductors for two days before performing at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids on Saturday, January 27.
Additionally, four other Walled Lake Consolidated Schools’ students were recognized as All-State Honorable Mentions for their outstanding auditions; James R. Geisler Middle Schools’ Vlayslava Popko, Walled Lake Western’s Jeff Campbell, and Walled Lake Northern’s Caleb Bauer and Claire Spoutz.
