Chris Huismann and Roger Martin receive Golden Apple Awards

Walled Lake Northern marching band volunteers, Chris Huismann and Roger Martin, received Golden Apple Awards at the November 7, 2024 Board of Education meeting.

Huismann and Martin were nominated by Walled Lake Northern parent, Lisa Massat, because of their dedication to the Knights’ marching band for 19 years.

“Even though their own children have graduated from the program, Roger and Chris still return year after year to ensure the current marching band students are photographed and celebrated each year,” said Massat.

As professional photographers, Huismann and Martin make sure that each student is photographed throughout the season. They attend home performances, practices and, before the season starts, both home and away band camps.

Martin also takes extra time to photograph each senior so that buttons can be made for the parents to wear on Senior Night. Further, he is on the field for senior night capturing wonderful photographs of each senior family.

Huismann goes the extra mile for the marching band's end-of-the-season banquet. He creates a video for the banquet featuring the seniors, showcasing highlights of the season’s show, and includes plenty of candid photos of the students having fun as part of the band. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the group’s accomplishments at the end of the year.
