Walled Lake United wrestling coach, Aaron Turner, received a Golden Apple Award at the September 10, 2026 Board of Education meeting.

Turner was nominated by Jen LaMay because she and other Milford High school parents think he is an amazing wrestling coach. LaMay’s son, Jake, doesn't go to or wrestle for Walled Lake, but Turner goes out of his way to talk to Jake and even offers wrestling advice to him.

“Aaron exemplifies everything an outstanding coach should be – dedicated, disciplined, compassionate and deeply committed to the growth of his athletes both on and off the mat,” said LaMay. “Through consistent leadership, integrity and mentorship, Aaron has shaped not only successful wrestlers, but confident, resilient young people.”

Turner’s guidance has taught athletes the true meaning of hard work, accountability and perseverance.

“Aaron has an exceptional ability to meet athletes where they are – challenging them to reach their potential while ensuring they feel supported and valued as individuals,” said LaMay.

“Aaron emphasizes sportsmanship, humility in victory and grace in defeat,” LaMay added. “He is a trusted mentor to athletes and has a positive presence. His passion for wrestling and for developing young people makes him exceptionally deserving of this recognition.”
